Ministries’ 3Rd Annual Christmas Dinner Toy Drive
Young Adult
Ministries’ 3Rd Annual Christmas Dinner Toy Drive was held December 9th the
Feast Day of The Conception by St. Anna of the Most Holy Theotokos.
As we
prepare ourselves for the coming of our Lord and celebrate His first Advent, we
recognize the gifts He has given to us. His coming into the world changed the
course of mankind, from a course unto death, to a course unto life.
God became
man, so man can become like God, not in nature, but through His grace. What was
once perhaps hopeless, before Christ in our lives, becomes possible with
Christ. He leads us into a life worth living and He shows us a better way, a
way of love.
During this
Nativity season, just three days after the Feast of Saint Nicholas, the Houston
Orthodox Young Adults came together in fellowship, for good company and good
food and bearing gifts for children of all ages. We took this opportunity to
remember those of God’s children who are in need, and in less fortunate life circumstances
than what we enjoy.
The toys
and games collected will benefit the children under the care of the Children’s
Assessment Center of Houston (CAC). The CAC provides professional and
compassionate treatment of sexually abused children and their families and
serves an advocate for all children in our community.
“According to the CDC, one out of
six boys and one out of four girls will be sexually abused before the age of
18. When child sexual abuse remains undiscovered or untreated, it causes a
lifetime of damage that scars children and destroys families, leaving offenders
free to continue the abuse, and crippling future generations of our children.
Our primary goal is to provide services which meet the needs of our clients as
it relates to their abuse, but we also hope to meet their childhood needs.
Every holiday season we work to ensure that this special time of the year will
be filled with joyful memories for the children we serve. Many of our clients
would not receive presents during the holidays without the generosity of caring
individuals and corporations” CAC.
A special thank you goes to all
those who came to our dinner and supported our cause of bringing a little
Christmas Cheer to those who can really use it. Thank you, for sharing the love
that Christ has for us, with those who are in need.
In Christ service,
Fr. Nicholas
