Year End Review

This past year has been a fantastic year of service and learning for our Young Adult Ministry(YAM). The YAM has a regular schedule of events. Every second Saturday of the month 9-11am, we serve at the Beacon Day Center located at 1212 Prairie Street. The Beacon Day Center provides hot meals and showers, laundry and counseling services, art programs and budgeting classes. This past year, was the introduction of pastoral care services was well as Bible Study. On any given day (Friday – Monday), over 400-600 clients will receive serves at the Beacon. If you have not joined us at the Beacon, we will continue our schedule into 2012. Check out their new “promotional” video   more...

Young Adult Ministries (YAM) is a Pan-Orthodox ministry for the young adult Orthodox in the Houston Texas area.

Our mission is to cultivate and educate our young adults, leading them to the fullness of the Faith and likeness of God; by utilizing the four circles of Christian living, Worship, Fellowship, Service, and Witness, young adults are integrated into the life of the Church enabling them to become active members of the body of Christ.

We minister to the Christian Orthodox young adults. There appears to be two general groups within the Young Adult Ministry range: the college-aged group (18-25) and the career-aged group (25-40ish). Within these groups there can also be many more subsets: married, with children, graduate school, etc. We strive to minister to all young adults in the community as they transition through their different life stages. Due to the demographics of young adults, it may be more appropriate to provide ministry to them in separate groups (i.e. OCF, young married, etc.). We try to bring these groups together for dialogue and interaction on occasion, as each group will benefit from the life stages of the others.

We are a ministry of the Orthodox Church. It is not an organization or club, but simply a gathering of the faithful of the Church who share the same ages and common interests. It is a spiritual ministry, based on the theological tenets of the Orthodox Christian Faith.

We have participants in Young Adult Ministries. Belonging to the Young Adult Ministry depends solely on being an Orthodox Christian. A young adult who participates is not classified as a member or non-member—if you are a member of the Faith, you belong! That is, you are participants rather than members. We welcome Non-Orthodox to participate in the young adult program to enjoy our fellowship and learn a little about our faith.
